Choosing Natural Materials for Nursery Décor
Choosing nursery décor is about more than looks - the materials you bring into your baby’s space matter.
When choosing pieces for your baby’s nursery, it’s easy to get lost in beautiful designs and soft textures. But there’s one detail that makes a big difference - the materials used.
At Thistle & Felt, we work exclusively with 100% pure wool felt that is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. Many other nursery items on the market are made from wool blends or wool mix felts. Here’s why that difference matters.
What is Wool Blend Felt?
Wool blends combine natural wool with synthetic fibres (like polyester or acrylic). These are popular because they are affordable and widely available, but they don’t share the same natural qualities as pure wool.
Why We Choose 100% Pure Wool
Pure wool felt is:
- Free from synthetic fibres - renewable, biodegradable over time and kinder to the planet.
- Durable – holds its shape beautifully, ideal for heirloom pieces.
- Naturally safer – wool is more flame-resistant than synthetics and breathable without chemical treatments.
What OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Means
OEKO-TEX® certification ensures every component of our felt - fibres, dyes and threads - has been tested for harmful substances. It doesn’t make the felt organic, but it does guarantee safety for use in children’s products.
Why It Matters for Your Nursery
Your baby spends hours under their mobile. Choosing pure, certified materials means fewer synthetics in their environment and a piece that lasts far beyond babyhood.
Note: Thistle & Felt mobiles are intended as décor only and should always be hung securely out of reach of children.
