Why Natural Fibres Matter for Little Ones

When creating pieces for babies and young children, every material matters. From the softness of the felt to the airiness of the stuffing, the fibres we choose become part of a child’s earliest environment - and this deserves thoughtful attention.

Natural materials feel different. They age differently. Most of all, they bring peace of mind in a world where so many products are made from synthetics.

Wool Felt

We choose materials with care, focusing on purity, safety and a connection to nature. Our felt begins its journey on Australian and New Zealand farms, where Merino sheep are raised for their soft, fine fleece. This wool is then sent to Europe, where artisans use traditional soap-and-water methods to transform it into felt - a process that creates a supple, durable material perfect for heirloom pieces.

The felt sheets we use are certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, UNE-EN 71-2 and UNE-EN 71-3, meaning they are tested for harmful substances and certified safe for use in children’s products.

Wool Stuffing

Our wool stuffing is sourced from farms in Victoria and processed naturally with care. Wool is a breathable and compostable alternative to polyester fill, chosen for its gentle and enduring qualities.

Why Natural Matters

Choosing natural fibres over synthetic ones is about more than aesthetics. It is a choice rooted in care - care for children, care for animals and care for the environment.

Natural fibres in the spaces where children sleep, play and grow feel grounded and calming, creating a gentle foundation for early life.

Note: Thistle & Felt mobiles are intended as décor only and should always be hung securely out of reach of children.
